If Venice has a spirit, then its name is Vivaldi.

The creator of "The Four Seasons" was born and lived there all his life, imbuing his music with the colors, stunning vivacity, and charms of the city's transparent relief.

Vivaldi's music speaks about Venice much more than Venice speaks about Vivaldi. His biography is filled with white spots, mysteries, silences, and paradoxes. Vivaldi was a priest who, however, never — except for the first year after his ordination — served the liturgy. Moreover, the "red priest" (so named for his unusual fiery hair color for Venetians) led a far from pious life, and when attempts were made to reprimand the holy father for his licentious behavior with two young girls, he retorted that as a sick person, he needed double care.

The instrumental concerts left after the composer are a sphinx's riddle. Works of incredible depth and inexhaustible immortality served as a textbook for Bach himself, and how could a dissolute abbot and swindler, capable of selling the same score under different titles to different clients and extorting money from an opera house, write them — the mind cannot comprehend. But isn't it precisely because even in his sternest and most elevated pieces there is so much vitality, joy, and pleasure?

Whatever it is, the Kyiv Mozart Orchestra excels at captivating with a union of philosophical depth and festive wit. This orchestra of young Kyiv musicians, who have taken Mozartian principles of ideal beauty, delicate harmony, and light audacity towards ossified philharmonic norms as the basis of their activity, plays with the same drive as Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock. And therefore, you won't find better Vivaldi than theirs in all of Kyiv.
