It emphasizes that, under any circumstances, one should not lose their inner wealth and should remain a complete, self-sufficient, and free individual who can take an active stance and triumph over evil.

The main character, a young Ukrainian aviation engineer named Hryhoriy Mnohohrishny, the great-grandson of Hetman Demyan Mnohohrishny, finds the strength to challenge a terrifying system, endure extreme hardships, overcome despair and hopelessness, stand firm, and retain his humanity while overcoming obstacles on the path to happiness.
